World of Warcraft Item Upgrades

Upgrades to an item are a way to boost the stats of an item. Depending on the upgrade type it could raise an item's Mark level or Rarity and boost additional stats.

Each item has a track to upgrade it. Each upgrade increases the price of the next item by a specified amount.

Item Level

The value of an item's basic stats increases when it is upgraded. This is the sum of an item's upgraded perks (attack magic attack and defense). The cost of upgrading items can be high dependent on the upgrader and what kind of upgrade you decide to do. This is due to the number of perks that have to be modified to upgrade an item.

The level of an item is a popular measure of power, and is visible on all tooltips of items. It also serves to determine a gating condition when waiting to queue for dungeons and raids and scenarios, and to limit the amount of PvP gear that a player can wear (since PvP is restricted to a lower level). Players can see their average level of item on their character sheet.

When deciding whether to buy or sell gear players can look at the level of an Best item upgrader. It's a good indicator of an item's quality and the amount of damage it's able to deal. The level of an item can be used to evaluate items when looking at the inventory of a seller.

On PC, you can check the level of the item by pressing ALT or using the left stick on XB1 or PS4. This will show the full description of the item, including its level. You can also find it by hovering over an item and typing /itemlevel in chat.

There are several theories on how the item level calculation is made. One theory says that the item level is calculated by formulas that determine the value of an Best item upgrader's stats actually are. It takes into consideration the fact that different perks have different values and gems in sockets add to the overall value of the item. This process can result in a calculated value for the item level upgrade's ilvl which is usually quite close to Blizzard's actual item level.

This is not the only factor that affects the value of an item. The location of where the item dropped can also alter its stats. For instance, it could increase the item's haste or crit rating. This means that items that drop at higher levels will have more the ilvl than items from lower level instances.

Item Stats

The item's stats can determine the fate of an item for players. The game uses them in many ways to encourage players to not limit themselves to one weapon and to encourage players to experiment with other weapons. The base stats on a weapon are enhanced by the weapon's stat modifications, which are themselves boosted by the player's level.

The upgrades to an item can boost its stats. The upgrade costs are determined by the rarity of the item. A white or grey item for instance, will only be upgraded one time, while an item with rare tiers may be upgraded multiple times with more expensive costs.

Affixes are a different method to change an item's stats. They are stat boosts that can be added by the player to an item. The affixes can provide the item extra damage, add a special capability to the item (such as reviving dead or decreasing cooldowns), or make the item unique by giving an additional name to the item.

All affixes can be re-rolled at the moment by selecting them in the upgrade window pressing the green button. It will cost a set amount of gold and other items. These can be used as upgrade gauges as with other rerolling methods.

Players can upgrade an item with a specific stat or reroll the affixes. The range of stats determined by the item's level. However, all items will contain at least one stat in the range, unless they are an exclusive item, or the item upgrader is a God Roll from a boss in a raid.

This is another thing that can be modified by adding an option to upgrade the equipment without having to reroll the affixes or deciding which stats to increase. But, like base equipment, this would need to be done on a per-item basis and the interface for comparing items wouldn't show all possible stats gained or lost at once.

Item Luck

The Luck stat of a player boosts the probability of obtaining items and the properties that are created by loot and the strength of these properties. However, it doesn't directly impact damage or the ability to upgrade items. It gives the player the chance to upgrade their equipment earlier in the game. This is more useful in the early game, since players tend to prioritize the scaling of weapons and defenses over raw damage gains.

In addition to influencing item discovery, Luck also increases the probability of success when upgrading items using the Blacksmith. This is not to confuse with the Blacksmith’s overall upgrade chances that increase with each level of the item. It is also possible to be enhanced by using anti-materials like a Scroll of Strength and a Jewel of Blessing.

The shields, armor and weapons come with a default Luck value of 40. These items can be improved with golden ingots or spined leather (depending on their material type) to add another 40 luck or to increase the luck of the item to 140.

Certain items, such as the Hollow-infused weapon can also be outfitted to increase the damage dealt by any ability that causes damage by 5%. These items can be purchased in the shop or made using the correct ingredients.

Item Failure

Upgrades to items are a costly process and not every upgrade will be successful. However, there are cash shop items that allow players to boost their chance of success or stop themselves from losing an item if the upgrade fails.

The rate of success of an upgrade is shown in the Honing UI. The percentage represents the chance of completing the upgrade successfully and it can be increased by adding Additional Materials or Special Materials. There are limitations on the extent to which the success rates can be improved and the chance of an upgrade failing can't exceed 100%..

The performance of an upgrade is also affected by the luck of that item. Each item has an overall success rate of 25 percent, and each item with Luck increases this chance by 5percent.

It is important to note that upgrade items are rendered above the items in the inventory which means that enchantment glints and other effects can be obstructed by them. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
