WoW Upgrades - The item level upgrade Upgrader

Upgrades provide a guaranteed boost to specific stats. Each upgrade increases the level of an item by 3. A random substat is also added to every upgrade.

The upgraded gear is usually more valuable, unless the item has low requirements by nature (like FB sorc shields) or has a large variance in stats (like the eth Titan weapons). Upgrades are less valuable for the latter due to the requirement to roll a perfect version.

Recycle Points

The upgrader for items allows players to upgrade gear to a higher item upgrading level by supplying the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any kind of armor or weapon. However, the item that is used to upgrade will be consumed forever and cannot be used again. Upgrades can also be applied to enchantments.

The upgrader is located in every major city, and can be visited anytime to upgrade your gear. It is recommended to visit the upgrader every few weeks to keep your equipment up-to-date.

The cost of upgrading will depend on the current level of the equipment being upgraded but they will always be cheaper than buying new gear from other sources. For example, upgrading a Benthic chest to 385 ilvl will cost 20 recycle points, while purchasing the same item Level upgrade from another player will cost 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used to purchase tools, armor, weapon and accessory upgrades. Players can purchase them from NPCs of item upgraders for various currencies. They can also find them in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade can be used on any weapon, tool, or armor. button, which will display an item's preview at the next upgrade items level if the player has sufficient materials.

The cost of upgrades varies based on the slot of the item and the current item level, with weapons costing more than gloves or bracers for instance. Each upgrade cost 15 Flightstones and a few crests, with certain upgrades offering discounts to lower the cost of the Flightstones or crests used. Once an item has been upgraded to a certain degree it is able to be downgraded and sold to the upgrader for a lower price.

Upgraders for items can be found at many locations on the main island as well as some outposts. The NPCs offer both an upgrade coupon and the possibility of getting the latest recipe. The discount for upgrading increases as more items are upgraded. It can also be increased by having players complete certain achievements or complete quests.

Unlike Cromwell in Baldur's Gate II is no upgrader for items in the beginning of Icewind Dale. The NPCs who can facilitate upgrades are available only via a variety of ways. This is both a positive and an issue.

In Season 3 the upgrade system has been tweaked a bit, with several new features added. After the player has upgraded to a specific level for an armor slot, upgrading other items to the same level will cost less. This is true regardless of whether the items come from a different set of equipment.

The amount of Valorstones needed for upgrades is decreased, and the discount is account-wide. The amount of Harbinger Crests required to upgrade is cut as well, but is only available when certain milestones are reached.

Crests

When it comes to upgrading equipment in WoW, players have a variety of choices. Flightstones are an item that is available to everyone who wants to upgrade. Crests are more specific, and are used during specific item level upgrades. Crests are a key element of the Dragonflight gear progression system, which was introduced in 10.1, and come in 4 ranks.

The first thing to remember is that crests can only be used on equipment that is of a particular rank, and every rank has different requirements for its upgrade path. The simplest and most straightforward upgrade route costs 15 crests while the most complex can require as much as 20 crests based on the kind of gear being upgraded.

Players can earn crests through completing content of the appropriate level, whether that involves walking around and engaging in outdoor activities for gear of lower tiers, raids or dungeons of all difficulties for higher-tier items, or Mythic+ heroic raid bosses and dungeons for gear that is used in the endgame. These crests are then exchanged with an upgrader such as Cuzolth or Vaskarn, in Valdrakken to upgrade the item in the proper steps and paths.

The use of these currencies isn't too complicated however, the system does introduce some changes to the overall upgrade process. Once a piece of gear reaches the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer or Adventurer) it will no longer require Flightstones. This change is designed to allow players to upgrade their equipment to the highest level possible for all their characters rather than relying solely on seasonal loot.

It's also crucial to choose crests in a wise manner, as they are only used for one purpose. For instance, it's best to make use of all your Whelpling-rank crests on the Best item upgrader equipment available and save Drake and Wyrm crests for the next batch of upgrades you're planning to make. This is especially relevant for trinkets and rings that occupy multiple slots on the character, which will only be able to avail the account-wide discount when all of the slots are full of high-quality gear.
