World of Warcraft Item Upgrades

Item upgrades can be used to boost the stats of an item. Based on the type of upgrade it can boost an item's Mark Level or Rarity, as well as boost other stats.

Each item comes with a track for upgrading it. Each upgrade increases the cost of the next one by a specific amount.

Item Level

When an item is upgraded, its stats are increased in value. The value is the sum of all the upgraded perks (attack magic attack, attack defense). Upgrades can be costly, depending on the person you hire and what you do. This is due to how many perks have to be replaced in order for the item to be upgraded.

It can also be used as a gating requirement while queueing for dungeons, raids and scenarios. It also serves to limit how much PvP gear players are able to wear as PvP is restricted at a lower level. Players can see their average level of items on their character sheet.

The level of an item can help players evaluate the potency of gear when deciding to purchase or sell. It's a sign of the damage and its quality. Comparing items in the inventory of a vendor is possible using the level of the item.

On PC, you are able to check the level of the item by pressing ALT or by using the left stick on XB1 or PS4. This will show the full description of the item, including its ilvl. It is also accessible by hovering an item with the mouse cursor, and then entering /itemlevel into chat.

There are many theories about how the level of an item is determined. One theory is that the level is a number derived from a formula that calculates how much an item's stats are worth. It takes into consideration the fact that different perks have different worth and that gems in sockets add to the value of the item overall. This can result in an item's ilvl calculated, which is usually very close to Blizzard's actual item level.

This isn't the only factor that influences the level of an item. The degree of the area in which the item was dropped can change its stats. For example, it could add a level to the Best item upgrade's haste or crit score. Items that drop in higher-level instances will have higher ilvl.

Item Stats

The item's stats can be the difference between a good or bad item for players. The game uses a variety of them in various ways to encourage players to use multiple weapons, and to prevent one weapon from being "the Best item upgrade." The base stats of a weapon are boosted by the weapon's stat modifications that are in turn increased by the player's skill.

Item upgrades add to that by boosting certain stats on the item. The cost of upgrades is determined by the rarity of the item. A grey or white item upgrader for instance, can only be upgraded once, while an item with rare tiers may be upgraded multiple times at higher costs.

Affixes are another way to alter the stats of an item. They are stat boosts which can be added by the player to an item. The affixes could be used to give the item extra damage, add a special capability to the item (such as reviving dead or reducing the duration of cooldowns), or make the item unique by putting a special name to the item.

All affixes are being re-rolled right now by selecting them in the upgrade window and pressing the green button. This process will cost the player a specific amount of gold and other items, which can be used to add to the upgrade gauge in the same manner as the other rerolling options.

Players can choose to upgrade an item by a specific stat or reroll attaches. The possible stat ranges of an item are based on the level of the item upgrader kit, but all items are guaranteed to have at minimum one stat within the range, unless it's an exclusive item or a God roll from a boss in a raid.

Another thing that could be changed by adding the option to upgrade the equipment without rerolling the affixes or choosing which stats to increase. But as with base equipment, this would have to be performed on a per-item basis and the item compare interface would not display all the possible stats that were gained or lost at the same time.

Item Luck

The Luck stat of a player boosts the chance of finding items and the properties that are spawned by loot and the strength of these properties. It does not, however directly affect damage or the ability to upgrade items. It simply gives players a chance to acquire better equipment earlier in the game, and is therefore more beneficial in the early game than later ones since most players prefer greater weapon scaling and defense over damage gains.

In addition to influencing the discovery of items, Luck also increases the probability of being successful when upgrading items using the Blacksmith. This isn't to be confused with the Blacksmith's overall chances of upgrading that increase with each level of the item. They can also be increased with the use of anti-materials like a Scroll of Strength and a Jewel of Blessing.

Weapons, shields, and armor can be made or spawn with the Luck property, which has an initial value of 40. These items can be enhanced with golden ingots, spined leather or oak boards (depending on the item's material type) to grant an additional +40 Luck or to boost the existing Luck of an item, up to 140.

Furthermore there are certain items, like the Hollow infused weapon can be outfitted to increase the damage of any damage-dealing skill by five percent. These items can be found in the shop or crafted by using the appropriate ingredients.

Item Failure

Item upgrades are expensive and not all upgrades will be successful. However, there are cash shop items that allow players to boost their chances of success or even prevent themselves from losing an item in the event that the upgrade fails.

When you upgrade an item the rate of success is displayed in the Honing UI. The percentage is the chances of successfully upgrading that item and can be enhanced by adding Additional Materials or Special Materials. There are limitations to the extent to which success rates can be increased, and the overall chance of an upgrade failing can't be greater than 100%..

The success of an item can be affected by the Luck of that item. Each item has an initial success rate of 25%, and each Best item upgrade with Luck increases that chance by 5%.

The upgrade overlays for items are rendered above the items in the inventory. This can block enchantment effects as well as other effects. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
