World of Warcraft Item Upgrades

Item upgrades are a way to increase the stats of an item. Depending on the upgrade type, it may boost an item's Mark Level or Rarity, and also boost other stats.

Each item comes with a track for upgrading it. Each upgrade increases the price of the next item by a specific amount.

Item Level

The value of an item's basic stats increase when it is upgraded. The value is the sum of all of its upgraded perks (attack, magic attack and defense). The cost of upgrading items can be high depending on the upgrader and what type of upgrade you choose to perform. This is due to how many perks need to be replaced in order for the item to get upgraded.

Item level is a commonly used measure of power, and can be found on all tooltips for items. It is also used to limit how much PvP gear players can wear, since PvP is limited at lower levels. Players can view their average item upgrader kit level in their character sheet.

Utilizing the level of an item will allow players to compare the potency of gear when deciding to purchase or sell. It's a good indicator of the quality of an item and how much damage it is able to deal. The level of the item can be used to compare items when looking at a vendor's inventory.

The item level can be viewed by pressing the ALT key on PC or using the left stick (L3) on XB1 and PS4. This will show the item's full description, including ilvl. You can also find it by hovering over an item and typing /itemlevel into chat.

There are various theories about how the calculation of an item's level is done. One theory states that the item level is determined by a formula that calculates the value of an item's stats actually are. It takes into consideration the fact that different perks have different worth and that sockets have gems that increase the value of the item overall. This can lead to an item's ilvl calculated, which is usually very close to Blizzards actual item level.

However, this isn't the only factor which determines the ilvl of an item, as the level of the region the item was dropped in could alter the value of its stats, for instance by adding a level to its haste or crit rating. Items that drop in higher-level situations will have higher ilvl.

Item Stats

The item's stats can make or break an item for players. The game makes use of them in various ways to encourage players to not limit themselves to a single weapon and to encourage players to explore other weapons. The stat mods of an weapon increase the base stats. These stat mods are then increased by a player's skill.

Upgrades to the item add by increasing certain stats of the item. The upgrade costs are determined by the rarity of the item. A white or grey item for instance, can only be upgraded one time, while an item with rare tiers can be upgraded multiple times with higher prices.

Another way to change the stats on an item is through affixes. They are stat boosts that can be added by the player to an item. The affixes could do things like give the item extra damage, add a special ability to the item (such as reviving dead or cutting down cooldowns) or make the item unique by giving a special name to the item.

All affixes can be currently re-rolled by selecting them in the upgrade window, and pressing the green button. It will cost a set amount of gold and other items. These can be used as upgrade gauges as with other methods of rerolling.

In addition to the possibility of rerolling affixes, players may select which stats they want to keep on an item after it is upgraded. The possible stat ranges of an item are determined by the item level, but every item is guaranteed to have at least one stat within the specified range, unless it is an exclusive item or a God roll from a boss of a raid.

Another thing that could be changed is the possibility to upgrade equipment without having to roll the affixes, or choose which stats to boost. As with the base equipment, it must be done per item and the interface for item comparison will not show all possible stats simultaneously.

Item Luck

A player's Luck stat stacks up to increase the odds of finding items and the properties that are spawned from loot drops and the strength of those properties. However, it doesn't directly affect damage or the ability to upgrade items. It provides players with the chance to upgrade their gear earlier in the game. This is particularly beneficial in the early game, because players tend to put weapon scaling and defenses above raw damage gains.

In addition to influencing item discovery, Luck also increases the probability of success when upgrading items using the Blacksmith. This should not be confused with the Blacksmith's overall upgrade probability, which increases with each level and can be further increased by using an anti-material such as a Scroll of Strength or a Jewel of Blessing.

Armor, shields, and weapons have the default Luck value of 40. These items can then be enhanced by golden ingots, spined leather, or oak boards (depending on the type of material used) to grant a further +40 Luck or to boost the luck of an item, up to 140.

Certain items, such as the weapon with Hollow-infused components, can also be equipped to increase the damage of any skill that is able to deal damage by 5percent. These items can be bought at the store or made using the correct ingredients.

Upgrades to items are expensive and not every upgrade will be successful. Cash shop items can be used to increase the chance of success of an upgrade item or to stop players from losing their item upgrader mod if it fails.

When you upgrade an item, the rate of success is displayed in the Honing UI. The percentage represents the likelihood of successful upgrading an item. This can be increased with Additional Materials or Special Materials. The percentage of success can only be increased as much, and the chance that the upgrade will fail cannot exceed 100%..

The performance of an upgrade is also affected by the luck of the item. Each item has an average success rate of 25%, and each item that has Luck increases the chance of success by five percent.

Note that item upgrades are rendered above the items in the inventory which means that enchantment glints and other effects could be masked by them. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
