Upgrades can boost the value of weapons, armors and rings. Upgrades also boost bonuses like crit chance and PvE Damage.

Components

Upgrade components can be incorporated into weapons, armor and trinkets in order to provide them with a boost in stats or to add an additional effect. They can be obtained by crafting, purchasing from vendors trading or looting. Certain upgrades come with special cosmetic effects.

Upgrade components can be placed in equipment with a slot for them. The item must have been at a minimum upgraded to blue level for a component to be used. Upgrade components, unlike other mods can only be applied once. They are not able to be replaced or applied several times. Infusions and enrichments are a type of upgrade component used to upgrade non-amulet legendary and ascended equipment, as well as some non-ascended items. Infusions and enrichments are recovered by salvaging gear that is ascended or completing an elite mission in the Prophecies, Factions and Nightfall campaigns.

An upgrade may be prefixed or a suffix changing the name of the item to which it is used (for examplethe 'Canthan Armor Insignia is changed to Canthan Armor of Minor Vigor). Each upgrade increases the likelihood that a higher-tier version of an item will be dropped in the next reset. This gives the player an incentive to keep improving their equipment even if they're uncertain of how much it will improve following a subsequent reset.

Whether a boost upgrade is successful or not, the process can be costly, and there is a high possibility that the item will become obsolete or even break if it fails. A unsuccessful upgrade could ruin Upgrade Crystals and Assist Powder, as well as the upgraded item. Cash shop items can be used to reduce or eliminate the chance of failure. Some upgrades also give the player a bonus if they are they are reinserted.

Glyphs

Glyphs can be found in the Black Lion Trading Post as part of the Gem Store bundle or purchase them with certain tools that are unlimited in use as well as during Faction Crypt Raids. Each Faction Crypt has a chance to drop one of the many Glyphs and there are some rare glyphs that can be found in the form of drops from any of the four Faction Crypts.

Once you have obtained the desired Glyphs you'll require them to be put on your equipment.
