Side-by-Side
The majority of the lightweight double pushchairs we tested are side-by-side models and they're generally best for children that can sit up unassisted, as these models tend to be lacking car seat integration. Side-by-side lightweight double pushchairs aren't foolproof, though -If your children are at the same age or at the same stage, they may still fight over who gets to ride in which seat. And if they're at different heights, a tandem style might be better for them, as it lets them confront each other.
Tandem
While side-byside models might be more suitable for siblings with similar ages tandem pushchairs are light and lightweight, and offer their own perks. Some can fit carseats that are larger, and others have reversible seats. Others have an extra carrycot or a convertible seat in the middle. They are more spacious and are easier to get into and out of. However the baskets they use tend to be smaller than the ones found on buggies that are single. They also have larger sized canopies with peekaboo windows and a cup holder for parents and padding for the legs of little ones.
The iCandy Peach is another example of a great value lightweight tandem. The fabric is a little less expensive than our other top-rated tandems, but it still looks and feels great and is very user-friendly. One of the most impressive things about it is its single-handed fold. While it does require practice, Kirstie in our Lab has said it's "genius". The carrycot cannot be folded while it is attached. However, the process to attach and remove the carrycot is easy and quick.
Tandem lightweight double strollers will usually make tighter turning than side-byside models. However, they could be harder to navigate on uneven surfaces and curbs. They are also slower to accelerate and are heavier to move. This can put strain on your back.
