How to Replace an audi a5 key fob G28 Engine Speed Sensor
In this video Charles the humble mechanic demonstrates how to replace the G28 engine speed sensor. The sensor is situated near the edges of the transmission above the flywheel ring gear. It transmits a signal the ECU via an uncolored wire (T55/49) and then to the tachometer within the instrument cluster.
1. Engine Speed Sensor
Located on the edge of the transmission above the flywheel ring gear G28 Engine Speed Sensor sends signals to ECU pin T55/49 through the grey wire. The ECU then uses this information to control the flow of fuel, timig and boost. It also sends an alert to the G5 Tachometer within the instrument cluster.
The sensor is used as a reference point to connect with the G40 Camshaft Position Sensor. The ecu needs to know when the crankshaft is TDC and the location of the camshaft so it can activate spark and injectors accordingly.
If this sensor fails to function, the ECU will display an error code P00160. This indicates that the Crank Shaft is not in sync with the Intake Camshaft. It could also indicate the possibility of a chain stretch or jumped chain link in the upper chain. The code won't show without the additional information supplied by other sensors (G4 or G40).
It is a little tricky to test as there are various pins on the connector, and they all have different functions. The best method for doing this is to measure the resistance between the ECU and the sensor. When the sensor is operational, it should read approximately 1000 ohms. Examine replacement key for audi a3 evidence of coolant or oil in the connector bay if you have issues with this component.
2. Injectors
Yesterday, when i was accelerating to the fullest speed from highway paytoll, i experienced an abrupt drop in power as if the engine was running out of gas or the injectors aren't firing at all. I pulled out the spark plugs this morning, three were drenched in gasoline and the fourth was unclean. When I start the engine with no sparks, I put a piece of tissue on the top of each hole in the injector, the 3 drenched with gazoline pop out, but the 4th one stays closed. I checked the ground connection on ECU pins 14/55/30/55/48/55/14/55/48/ I get 0ohm. I'm assuming the issue is in another place.
I also tried to reset the PID but with no luck. The car can start if the G28 is not plugged in and it runs perfectly when it is plugged in, but still is experiencing intermittent misfires at higher RPM. The coolant sensor (G62), even if it is not plugged in, shows a temperature of -49c. I also noticed that the oil gauge in the cockpit shows 2 bar but the actual pressure is zero.
I don't know what to do. I believe that I've all other possibilities out. I'm worried that i might have missed something. Let me know should you have any suggestions! TIA!
3. Fuel Pump
The fuel pump in the g28 gets a signal from the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter functions similarly to the G4 sender and works on the 80,100,200, UrS, and RS2 vehicles. You can easily locate a spare in a wrecking shop or parts store. It is simple to test them - simply put your DMM into resistance mode and determine the distance between pins 1 and 2 (with the bump on the connector's edge facing up). They must be infinite ohms.
4. ECU
The ECU of our 20vt turbo (3B AAN ABY ADU) engines must be aware of the position and speed the crankshaft to determine fuel injector timing, etc. To do this, it makes use of a Crank Position Sensor (G4) and an Engine Speed Sensor (G28). If either of these sensors go bad you will get codes on the diagnostic scanner that could cause engine shut down.
A damaged G28 sensor can cause an inaccurate gearbox speed counter, a gearbox that shifts more quickly than normal, and/or a misfire in gear. It is possible that your sensor is failing and needs to be replaced if you notice any of these symptoms. The good news is that they are very affordable and readily available particularly in the case of a Bosch unit which is what ours are. Alternatively, the GM version of this component is also a great option.
5. Tachometer
A damaged engine sensor could cause a variety of issues within your vehicle. It's an essential component of your audi car key holder's transmission, as it sends information to the ECU about how fast or slow the audi car key case's crankshaft is rotating. When this sensor fails, it can affect the performance of the transmission and the rest of the replacement car key audi's components.
The G5 engine speed sensor is situated on the edge of the transmission just above the flywheel ring gear. It transmits a signal to the ECU at pin T55/49 through an uncolored wire. The ECU uses this signal to control the amount of fuel and boost, and also to timigrate. It also sends it to the G5 Tachometer in instrument cluster. You can check for sensor failure by checking continuity from the sensor to the tachometer. Additionally, you can examine the continuity between pins T55/49 of the ECU and pin T6a/1 of the instrument cluster (trace [79]) and between pin T6a/1 as well as pin T26a/12. It should show approximately 1000 ohms of resistance between those points. This is a common component across the audi q7 key 80, 100, 200, UrS and RS2 range from 1985 MC to the 1997 UrS AAN and 1995 RS2 ADU so good ones could be available in wrecking yards.
