World of Warcraft Item Upgrades

Item upgrades can be used to increase the stats of an item. Based on the type of upgrade you choose, it can boost the rarity of an item or mark Level, and also boost other stats.

Each item comes with a track for upgrading it. Each upgrade increases the cost of the next item by a certain amount.

Item Level

The value of an item's base stats increases when it is upgraded. The value is the sum of all the upgraded benefits (attack magic attack, attack defense). Upgrades can be expensive, dependent on who you employ and what you do. This is due to the variety of perks that have to be modified to upgrade an item.

It can also be used to enforce gating requirements when waiting for dungeons, raids and scenarios. It also serves to limit the amount of PvP gear players can use, since PvP is limited at a lower level. The average item level can be found in the character sheet.

Utilizing the level of an item will allow players to compare the potency of gear when choosing to buy or sell. It's a measure of the item's condition and quality. The level of the item can be used to evaluate items when looking at a vendor's inventory.

On PC, you are able to view the item level by pressing ALT or using the left stick on XB1 or PS4. This will display the full item description, including its level. It is also accessible by hovering an item with the mouse cursor, and then entering /itemlevel into chat.

There are several theories on how the item level calculation is carried out. One theory is that the level is a numerical value derived from a formula that determines the value of an item's stats are worth. It takes into account the fact that different perks have different values, and also that gems in sockets increase the value of the item overall. This process could result in a calculated value for the item's level, which is usually close to Blizzard's real level of the item.

It's not the only thing that affects the level of an item. The location of where the item was dropped can change its stats. For instance it can add a level to the item's haste or crit rating. Items dropped in higher-level instances will have higher ilvl.

Item Stats

Item stats can make or break an item for players. The game uses them in many ways to encourage players not to limit themselves to one weapon and to motivate players to experiment with other weapons. The stat modifications of weapons boost base stats. These stat mods are then increased by a player's skill.

Item upgrades add to that by increasing certain stats of the item. The cost of upgrades is determined by the rarity of the item. A white or grey Best item upgrader for instance, will only be upgraded one time and items with rare tiers may be upgraded multiple times with higher costs.

Another method to alter the stats of an item is to use affixes. These are special stat boosts that can be added to an item by the player, and are available in all sizes and shapes. Affixes can do things like give the item upgrading additional damage, or add a unique capability to the item (such as reviving dead or reducing the cooldowns) or make the item unique by giving an additional name to the item.

All affixes are being re-rolled right now by selecting them in the upgrade window, pressing the green button. It will cost a set amount in gold and other items. They can also be used as upgrade gauges, similar to other methods of rerolling.

Players can upgrade an item with specific stats, or reroll attaches. The possible ranges of stats for an item are determined by the item level, but all items are guaranteed to have at least 1 stat within that range, unless it is an exclusive item or the result of a God roll from a boss of a raid.

Another thing that could change is the possibility to upgrade equipment without having to roll the affixes, or choose which stats to enhance. But, like base equipment, this would have to be done on a per-item basis, and the interface for comparing items wouldn't show all possible stats gained or lost at once.

Item Luck

The Luck stat of a player stacks up to increase the likelihood of item discoveries, the properties spawned on loot drops, and the intensity of these properties. However, it does not directly impact damage or the ability to upgrade items. It provides players with the chance to upgrade equipment earlier in the game. This is particularly useful for early game runs, since players tend to prioritize defenses and weapon scaling over raw damage gains.

Luck can also boost the chances of upgrading items at the Blacksmith. This is not to confuse with the Blacksmith's overall chances of upgrading that increase with each level of the item. They can also be increased with the use of anti-materials like a Scroll of Strength and a Jewel of Blessing.

Weapons, shields, and armor can be made or spawn with the Luck property, which has the default value of 40. These items can be augmented by using golden ingots or spined leather (depending on their material type) to increase the value of 40 luck, or to increase the Luck of an item up to 140.

Certain items, such as the weapon with Hollow-infused components, can also be equipped to increase the damage dealt by any skill that is able to deal damage by 5percent. These items can be bought at the store, or they can be constructed using the right ingredients.

Item Failure

Upgrades to items are expensive and not every upgrade will be successful. Cash shop items can be used to boost the success rate of an upgrade, or to protect players from losing their item in the event that it fails.

When you upgrade an item, the success rate is shown in the Honing UI. The percentage is the probability of successful upgrading an item upgrader kit. This can be increased with Additional Materials or Special Materials. There are limitations to the extent to which success rates can be increased and the probability of a failed upgrade cannot exceed 100%.

The Luck of an item may influence the effectiveness of an upgrade. Each item has an initial success rate of 25%, and each item with Luck increases that chance by 5%.

The item upgrade overlays are rendered above the items in the inventory. This could block enchantment effects as well as other effects. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
