An In-Depth Look Back What People Said About Item Upgrading 20 Years Ago
Path of Exile Item Upgrading
The ability to upgrade items allows players to enhance their weapons and gear by adding new affixes, increasing its base stats or giving additional benefits. To upgrade items, players must have the item in their inventory and have access to the kiln.
Typically objects that have weak bases (like rings) can be upgraded to a more powerful base while objects with strong bases, such as Eth titans don't change significantly in their stats after being upgraded.
Upgrade components
Upgrade components can be added to weapons, armors, trinkets, and gathering tools. They can be used as an attribute bonus, or an additional benefit, while the equipment is being used. They can be purchased from vendors, gathered in loot, thrown away by enemies, or obtained as a reward from missions or chests. Certain upgrades come with additional cosmetic effects. Most upgrades require that the equipment be above a certain point before they are upgraded.
To upgrade an armor, weapon or other item in the game, players will have to select it and then click on the Upgrade button on the toolbar. The screen will show on the right-hand side of the screen a preview showing the expected upgrade stats as well as the required component or materials.
There are three types of upgrade components that are universal upgrades, prefix upgrades, and suffix upgrades. Universal upgrades, like gems, can be put on any type of equipment. They provide a smaller bonus than upgrade components that are subject to a type limitation. Infusions, which can only be placed in gear that is ascended and legendary equipment are exactly the same as jewels but have higher bonuses and cannot be used in any other equipment. Suffix upgrades are able to be placed in gathering tools, add their names to the end of the name of the item upgrader they are attached to, for example adding a Glyph to the Staff Wrapping of Minor Vigor will transform it into a Canthan Staff Wrapping of Minor Vigor.
In the instance of upgrades for gathering tools, if a player replaces one glyph by another the old glyph will be returned to the inventory. However, replacing any other upgrade component will destroy it, excluding inscribed glyphs that can be swapped.
Leveling
The upgrade system in Path of Exile has some important differences from previous versions. Gear is now divided into tracks and items can be upgraded a specific number of times before being "leveled out." The upgrade costs increase with each level, but the materials required do not. This lets players focus their efforts on a couple of essential items and maximize their impact, instead of spreading the upgrade costs across several pieces.
When an item is leveled out and is leveled out, it will be eligible for an upgrade set of components, and an increase in the likelihood that the upgrade will succeed. This bonus is known as Artisan's Energy. It resets to 0 if an upgrade fails, or increases if the upgrade succeeds.
After a piece has been upgraded to its highest level, it will be able to receive the affixes needed to enhance its abilities. The amount of affixes available will depend on the item's class. For example the rare or exclusive weapon with a base that is normal will have no more than two affixes available for it, while legendary armors can have up to eight affixes available for it.
Each upgrade process will require a specific amount of Flightstones or Crests, based on the type of item upgrader mod at its current level, and in which slot it is placed in. Typically, weapons will require more Flightstones to upgrade than other kinds of equipment.
If an item level upgrade does not reach its maximum level, the NPC gives the player the choice to transfer it to another character and then re-infuse it with a different set of upgrades. This process can take between one and two hours and will cost the same amount of materials. However it has a lower success rate.
To determine the height of a structure engineers use a level to compare the measurement to a known reference point like a benchmark, or the elevation of the ground. This is known as a "level loop." It involves taking readings using the level and backsight rod and then turning the level and making the foresight rod reading. This method ensures that buildings are constructed to an extremely high level of accuracy and security.
Rerolling
Rerolling is the process of altering the upgrade components of an item. It is a vital aspect of the game and can significantly improve an item's strength and damage as well as other attributes. It is possible to do this through the item menu or by pressing the Reroll button whenever you upgrade an item. Rerolling items can be costly and should be done sparingly.
The game allows players to recycle upgraded items, and use them to obtain reroll tokens. These tokens can be used to upgrade the original item or an item of the same type. Recyclable items come with a level gauge that shows how much of the upgrade gauge has been filled. The rarity and the cost of upgrading an item determines the level of filling.
Prior to this, certain upgrade items were given priority affixes which made them more accessible for players to roll. This meant that you'd get the stats that mattered most to your build often than other items. This included stats such as the armor's total armour, thorns, and control impaired duration reduced stats or the weapon's bonus attack speed and crit strike chance.
This changed with the recent patch. Priority affixes are no longer required and all upgrades will have the same odds of rolling for each stat. This could be a positive or bad thing dependent on your needs and expectations from your equipment.
Each upgraded item can also come with a bonus that increases the power of the item by a specific percentage or flat value. These bonuses are offered over the usual affixes. The more you upgrade an item, the greater chances of obtaining a unique bonus.
The game also comes with number sets that grant an extra bonus when three or four upgraded items from the set are equipped on a unit. This is a great method to give a character a lot more power without spending a ton of money.
Many players reroll their weapons and gear, especially in the early stages. Rerolling is a method to gain a stronger character faster, allowing you to progress in the game and achieve higher levels.
Sets
Sets are collections of elements that can be arranged in a variety of ways. They could be of various sizes, have no elements, or only have a single element. They can be used to organize data or sort information. They are also useful in analyzing patterns. Sets can be categorized in several ways, including by size and shape.
There are many set items available to upgrade in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Certain items are worth upgrading, others are not. Upgrades are worth it for armor sets that provide high defense and set bonuses. Weapon upgrades are not as effective in boosting stats as their counterparts in purple. This makes them less attractive to upgrade when your collection of armor and weapons pieces is already large.
Certain set items are upgraded for their own special functions, which can be particularly beneficial in certain builds. This is evident in Aldur's Advance Boots and Guillaume's Face. Both were upgraded from Exceptional Winged Helm and Exceptional Mirrored Boots respectively, increasing their defense by 217 to 321 (Strength requirement and Level requirement were increased as well).
Another reason to upgrade certain items is to bring them into parity with their levels. The Immortal King Set, for example, has a wide range of levels, from 29 to 75. Upgrades to lower level items can enhance their defense, and increase their competitiveness when it comes to damage.
Clicking the Upgrade button will show the attributes of the item and the necessary items needed to upgrade it. The item will be displayed with its features, as well as the required items to upgrade it. For instance the No-mouth face will require 1.1K Scrap Materials as well as 250 Enchanted Dust, and 5 Glowing Shards to upgrade. Players can also check the upgrade requirements for specific items at the Cyrodiil Golden vendor or Leaderboard.
In general, armor and weapons have a higher trade value when they are fully updated. Particularly, for weapons that feature damage glyphs that are spell-like or weapon-related upgrading them to gold is recommended because it will give a substantial increase in their power. Weapons with an upgraded appearance will also benefit from this, since its defense value will increase when it goes from purple to gold.
