From VSt Wiki

Path of Exile item upgrader Upgrades

item level upgrade upgrades are a common and crucial method to enhance the performance of many items in Path of Exile. They can be a great source of damage and more AD or even more attachments.

Often times however upgraded Common and Magic gear is outclassed by Rare-grade gear because of their higher requirements.

Armor

Armor upgrades can be applied to both armor and weapon items. They boost the performance of the item level upgrade they are attached to. Armor upgrades can be found in the world of games and purchased from Blacksmiths on bonfires. They can also be salvaged using a specialist or higher salvage kit to recover upgrade components from other items.

The amount of damage an armored piece or weapon is able to absorb is dependent on the level of its upgrades. The absorption of damage by a piece armor will increase when it is upgraded to its maximum upgrade level. However, it's important be aware that this upgrade will increase its weight, causing it to weigh more than before.

There are several different types of armor upgrades that are available in the game. Each one has a distinct effect. Some upgrades give armor an additional number of health points while others make it lighter and more powerful. The kind of armor upgrade an item upgrade will receive will be indicated by the name of the upgrade as indicated in the table below.

A few upgrades are magical or a combination of technology and magic which is shown by a "Magic" or "Hybrid" entry in the table below. Additionally, some upgrades require a fee to use, which is identified by an "Charges" entry in the table below. The charges associated with these upgrades are updated daily or never expire according to the upgrade.

The cheapest method to upgrade armor is with Iron Ore, which can be obtained by exploring the area and looting small loot chests. Titanium is more costly, however, it is available at the smelters of Orgrimmar and Stormwind City. Certain upgrades, such as the Reforge or the Hot Potato Books can only be applied to armor pieces that are of high-level. These upgrades can give significant boost to performance and are worth the investment, especially for 1-handed weapons.

A piece of armor upgraded to its maximum upgrade level will greatly increase its defense capabilities however, the user must be aware that putting on weight will dramatically reduce its agility and speed. It is not recommended to upgrade armor beyond +9. The added defense typically isn't worth the weight and power expenses of the upgrades.

Weapons

Weapon upgrades allow players to improve the effectiveness of certain aspects of the weapon. Upgrades can increase the accuracy of a rifle or the damage caused by shotgun shells. Some weapons have special upgrades to improve their inherent qualities. Frictionless materials (improves stability, minimizes weapon overheating), and Kinetic coils (increases the projectile's speed to cause more damage) are two examples.

Most weapon upgrades require one of three Power Dices, a different amount of Minerals and Erons and a whetblade for applying. They can be obtained by completing side quests or by killing a certain amount of monsters and bosses.

To upgrade the weapon, equipment set piece, or Whetblade You must go to the NPC [Armor] Boboko located in Central Flarine, and pay her an upgrade fee of a specific amount of bars. The higher the upgrade level, the higher the number of bars are required to complete it. The cost of the upgrades will be lower if have more than one of the relevant upgrade materials.

In Chapter 2: Season 5 the way you upgrade weapon and equipment sets has changed a bit. Prior to Chapter 2 Season 5 you could upgrade your weapon or equipment by paying a specific number of Bars. You could do this until your weapon or equipment reached its maximum upgrade level, at which point the upgrades would be reset.

It's possible, but it is dependent heavily on RNG. Instead, you're better off going to the stores and buying gear that has low upgrade levels but excellent base scores and stat distributions. These gears have a higher chance of giving you the most prestigious tier of advantages and benefits.

Most players will want to make the most of upgrades to weapons they are most likely to use to allow them to progress quicker. Players should also upgrade the weapons that their teammates use to make them stronger. For instance, Shepard should consider upgrading the M92F to unlock the Beretta M93R to make it more useful when accompanied by biotic specialists like Grunt and Tali.

Jewels

Jewels are placed in the sockets of armor and weapons, increasing a stat and providing secondary effects. They can be created using the process of jewelry crafting, in which you combine a gemstone and several chemicals at a table. The higher the grade of the gem has, the more powerful its secondary effect. These reagents are obtained in the world from Treasure Goblins, World Bosses and sometimes by salvaging Legendary gear. You can also buy them from The Jeweler for gold and a Scattered Prism.

The Jeweler can boost the quality of gemstones in stages ranging from Crude up to Royal. The stat boosts will vary depending on the level the jewel is in when it's inserted into jewelry, weapons or equipment.

The Jeweler can create the highest levels of gems with the exception of rare and legendary ones that you must attain a certain level to get. Jewels can be replaced by another jewel without destroying the original. However it is only possible to replace the jewels in an equipment piece only once.

It is typical to use more jewels to enhance the appearance of. The jewels also improve performance and make a surface harder than steel so that repeated friction from pivots do not cause damage to the movement.

In addition to the above upgrades additionally, players can get glyphs for their shields and weapons from a Glyphmaster. These glyphs give a slight boost and can be swapped, but they are not guaranteed to appear as loot. Glyphs can be upgraded like jewelry, at the Jeweler for gold and Scattered Crystal. Glyphs may also be removed and returned to the inventory. Other upgrade components, such as traits or aegis cannot be swapped, and can only be retrieved with an Upgrade extractor, or salvaging with a Black Lion Salvage Kit or an Ascended Salvage.

Trinkets

Trinkets are pieces of equipment that offer a wide range of tiny but valuable advantages to your hero. They can be acquired starting in the areas of starting as loot or personal story rewards from vendors, or by completing road interactions. They can be purchased from the Trading Post, or crafted by jewelers.

The first trinket a player unlocks will be the cloak, which gives an unimportant but beneficial boost in speed of movement and evasion. The player can then collect necklaces, rings, and amulets, in a similar way to how they acquired weapons and armor. Each piece of equipment has one upgrade slot that can accept either a universal or a jewel upgrade. Universal upgrades are smaller and can be used on any piece of equipment. Jewels are not upgradeable or replaced and are only compatible with certain trinkets.

These trinkets provide additional buffs and abilities that are active when the hero isn't in combat. This enables the hero to be more effective when not active and may also help fill in the void of a strong team or any slots from the talent tree that would normally be filled with the hero's best statistics.

In general trinket upgrades should be a priority BiS (Best in Slot) items that you will not replace in the near future. Also, consider items with desirable statistics that aren't as significant as the iLevel for the Item Upgrade that is to be upgraded. This is especially true when an item level upgrade has multiple stats you wish to upgrade, as it's usually better to upgrade a single crucial stat than two subpar ones.

Jungle players often upgrade their yellow trinket to a red one at the beginning of the game. Top and mid players on the other hand will pick either a pink or green ward, based on the game's matchup. These choices will have a major impact on the hero's ability to control his map.

In addition to the items mentioned above, players will find other trinkets that form of rewards and trophies throughout the game. These can be earned by completing certain milestones within the story. For instance, finishing the main quest for a chapter or beating an opponent. They can be viewed by selecting the relevant achievement from the reward tab of the hero menu.
